Simon Says Challenges “XYZ” and “Stencil It” #2

While I was making the previous card in black, white & red I realized there is a birthday coming up in a couple of weeks for a soon to be 6 year old who loves pink and zebra print!  I am not big on pink but it is important to make the card for the person that you intend to give it to!  I know she will love it and that is what is important.

So, I used the Crafters Workshop Mini Zebra Print stencil with Ranger Texture Paste on bright pink paper.  Then I die cut the Memory Box Corner Stone image in black.  I used the Sizzix circle dies and cut our circles in pink and white to go with it.  The Leaping Zebra stamp is by Rubber Soul.  I used clear Wink of Stella on him along with Crystal Effects.  Then I added some black dots with Ranger Enamel Accents.

I used the Simon Says heart die from the Highlight Frames set in white.  I added a black ribbon behind it to make it stand out.  The heart is from the same die but in pink and I added clear Wink of Stella and Crystal Effects to it also.  This card is very similar to the prior card but in pink, black & white and I added the heart instead of the “hello”.  Perfect for anyone that loves pink!

Simon Says Challenges “XYZ” and “Stencil It”!

This weeks Simon Says Monday Challenge is “XYZ” and I immediately thought of one of my favorite things – zebras!  So, “Z” is for zebra this week and the Wednesday Challenge is “Stencil It” & I decided to use my zebra stencil!  I used the Crafters Workshop Mini Zebra Print stencil and Ranger Texture Paste on black paper.  In red I die cut the Memory Box Corner Stone die, along with circles in black and white using the Sizzix circle dies.  The Leaping Zebra stamp is by Rubber Soul and I added clear Wink of Stella and Crystal Effects to him.  I also added some black Ranger Enamel Accents around him.  I attached the whole thing with foam tape to the card.

The “hello” is a Lawn Fawn die that I cut out in black, white and red and offset it when I glued them together to give it some dimension.  I also added clear Wink of Stella to the word.  I added a white ribbon behind the word to make it stand out a bit more against the wild zebra print.  The card is a lot of laying of white, black and red – one of my favorite combinations.

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge “Simon Says Brand”

Well, our home office is finally almost completed.  We worked on the back patio last weekend getting the last of the boxes organized and sorted.  In addition, we had some time to buy new plants and get them planted, so the patio is almost “back to normal”.  So, I’ll have a nice view while I am working…

This week’s Monday challenge is to use Simon Says Stamp exclusive products.  I knew I had a lot of Simon Says Stamps but I was amazed at how many I had to pick from!  Since the challenge ends tomorrow I only had a chance to make one card but I had fun creating it!

I used the Simon Says Stamp set “Super Duo” and colored the “duo” with Prismacolor markers (some day I will own Copic, most of my Prismacolor pens are the older tips instead of the new brush tip so blending isn’t as easy).  The background is Tim Holtz Distress inks in Squeezed Lemonade, Spiced Marmalade, and Festive Berries.  I just used the sponge applicators and blended the 3 colors.  I also used the 3 colors to stamp the background of the words.  I fussy-cut the words out and attached it to a piece of black paper and fussy-cut around the edges.  Then I attached the words with foam squares.

The stars were punched out of gold glitter paper and I added clear Wink of Stella to the “Together”, around the words and a few accents on the duo.  Enjoy!

One of my favorite places…

I love the ocean, and my favorite place to enjoy it is Pacific Grove, CA.  I am a California girl born and bred.  I live in Sacramento, CA and I am lucky enough to have the ocean less than 2 hours away to the west and the mountains (Sierras) less than 2 hours to the east.  Pacific Grove is located between Monterey & Carmel and it is a beautiful area.  We try to get down, even for a day trip, at least once a year.  We were fortunate enough to make it down last Saturday and here are a few pictures from 17 Mile Drive which runs from Pacific Grove, through Pebble Beach and into Carmel and the area around it, enjoy…

Since getting back to making cards again last year, there are many people that have helped me through the process of “catching up” and along the way inspired me to create.  The top three on the list are Jennifer McGuire, Kristina Werner and Simon Says Stamp.

There are so many new products, techniques and more that it was overwhelming at first.  Acrylic stamps were just starting to come in when I was last making cards.  I had heard of a Big Shot, Cuttlebug, Sizzix, etc. and had an idea of what they did but didn’t really know the difference.  I had never really understood the difference between dye and pigment inks.  With the help of Jennifer and Kristina’s YouTube videos I quickly “caught up” and also finally got my questions answered about inks, paper, new products, etc.  I also found out what was “in”, for example: water coloring, Tim Holtz Distress Inks, and currently shaker cards.  I discovered how to use new products in multiple ways with easy instructions.

I picked Jennifer & Kristina because they have a similar style to my own.  I don’t like “fussy” cards; I like clean lines and color.  There are many designers out there and I encourage anyone to check out YouTube and find one(s) that feature your own style and sign up for their blogs or YouTube channels.  Weekly I am amazed at what they both come up with whether it is a new technique, another way to use a stamp or product, or just an amazing card.  I also enjoy finding out about new stamps and products that are coming out.

Finally, Simon Says Stamp!  They have become my “go to” place for buying products.  I am fortunate to have a stamp store in my area but it is a half hour away and doesn’t carry the volume of products that Simon Says does – no one does!  They have their own exclusive line and also sell products from MANY other designers and companies.  I especially enjoy their blog

Daily I am inspired by other designers and get to see new products coming out, videos and how different people come up with totally different designs with the same set of stamps.  Whether it is a card, scrapbook page or some other art form.  I especially enjoy the Monday and Wednesday Challenges where you can send in photos of your own creations to share and can win a $50 gift card to Simon Says Stamp from a random drawing each week – twice a week.  I have been lucky enough to win once and also won a blog hop.  Yep, they have blog hops too, where you can check out how different designers have created a work of art with a new stamp set or product.

The challenges are also great to check out what other people are creating.  There are SO MANY talented people out there from all over the world!  It is always good to leave a comment on their blog too and let them know you appreciate their work.

I encourage you to check out these blogs & websites and become INSPIRED!
